Yellowcake specializes in contemporary apparel with a mission to
create boldly fashioned clothing that inspires and sustains a
healthy humanity. The driver at the wheel is Valerie Mayen, a
Cleveland transplant of 9 years and counting. Her aim is to
consistently produce beautiful, high quality work while maintaining
Cleveland-based manufacturing, utilizing local sewers, undertaking
student apprentices to pass skills on and helping others with a
portion of the profits of her work. Since inception, Yellowcake has
always committed to donate 5% of the business profits to charity.
In the past year Yellowcake has supported homeless shelters, relief
funds and non-profit arts organizations both locally and
nationally.
Valerie started in Cleveland as an illustrator and graphic
designer. After realizing what damage there was to be done in the
fashion industry, she decided to have a go in 2006. The response
was positive as the public had a sweet tooth for Yellowcake.
Valerie loves her city, believes in the people here and doesn't
mind the weather. She's a David Bowie maniac, makes a mean set of
enchiladas and eats 5 mangos a week! "B&G" is at the heart of
her purpose as an artist and will soon become a staple for
designers ahead.
