My Address Makes Connections

Downtown Cleveland is home for Eric Tolbert. Born here, bred here, he continues to live and work right in Downtown.  He loves the city environs. The walkability. The neighborhoods. The culture.  The vibrancy. But most of all, he loves its people and how he can easily connect with them in the city.

Connections are important in his business. Eric is a financial advisor with Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc.

He just steps out the door of his office in the Hanna Building and can easily walk to meet most of his clients or his fellow COSE small business owners. He opened his financial planning practice in Downtown in 2003 because he saw opportunity since there was not an Ameriprise Financial office in the city. He has never looked back. It has been one of the best decisions in my career, he says, recognizing that Downtown has been good for business.

He also adores living in the city. He moved into the Pinnacle three years ago and hops on a trolley each morning making the commute a breeze. He also loves the views, the open architecture, and not having to mow the lawn, he says with a smile indicating that he plans to enjoy his Downtown home for a long time.

Born to working class family here in Cleveland, he was the first generation to go to college. He chose Cleveland State and majored in finance, an uncommon choice for an African American in the 1980s. Today he is joined by more African Americans who have chose finance as a career, but he sees it as his mission to encourage more to follow and become entrepreneurs right here in Cleveland.
