As a lifelong Clevelander, Karen Powell is the Office
Administrator for Findley Davies, Inc., a human resources
consulting firm. Her experience also includes serving in
human resource and administrative roles at local firms including
Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff LLP, Ulmer & Berne
LLP and JRM Bakeries LLC (Cinnabon).
Karen's strong commitment to environmental sustainability and a
desire to lead a healthier lifestyle led to an interest in the
local foods movement. Since 2005, she has been very active as
a volunteer for the non-profit Entrepreneurs for Sustainability and
the networking group Local Food Cleveland, and was nominated for
the E4S 2010 Sustainability Champion award. In addition,
Karen volunteered with the Cuyahoga Valley Countryside Conservancy,
as a farmers' market volunteer, Advisory Committee member and a
farm volunteer. Karen was a co-founder of the Farm 'n Barn
Bike Tour, a fundraising event to benefit the Countryside
Conservancy Initiative farms.
As a DCA City Advocate, Karen is excited about promoting the
growth of local food and enhancing Cleveland's attraction as a
culinary vacation destination and its potential as a green urban
residential community. By making healthier food choices more
accessible and through supporting local producers, the growth and
prosperity of our local economy, ecological sustainability and
entrepreneurship will all be promoted and encouraged.
Karen serves on the board of Pots & Pans, a non-profit whose
mission is to provide cooking tools to those in need through
recycling and the re-distribution of commonly used kitchen
items. She is an active runner and club member of Cleveland
West Road Runners, and enjoys volunteering with races and other
Club events. During her free time, Karen enjoys working with
local farmers, visiting the many amazing independent restaurants in
our area, and spending time with her dog in Cleveland Metroparks
and Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
