Managing Director of Accounting

About the job
The Managing Director of Accounting will oversee the day-to-day financial operations of Downtown Cleveland, Inc. ensuring accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and seamless operational support across the organization and its affiliated entities. This role calls for a strategic, hands-on professional who can balance high level financial oversight with the daily demands of accounting operations in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Title: Managing Director of Accounting
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Location: Downtown Cleveland (full time in office position)
Compensation: $80,000 - $90,000 per year
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required
Minimum of 3 years of accounting or finance experience preferred
Key Qualifications & Responsibilities
Financial Management
Monitor organizational cash flow, reserves, and overall financial health with strong attention to detail and accuracy
Oversee all accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking, reconciliations, and general ledger activity
Ensure timely and accurate monthly and year end close processes
Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and compliance reporting
Maintain and strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and operational procedures
Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, grant requirements, and contractual obligations while managing sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion
Perform budgeting, variance analysis, and preparation of financial reporting packets for leadership review and strategic decision making
Financial Operations & Organizational Support
Balance high level financial oversight across multiple entities with hands-on operational execution in a dynamic, fast paced environment
Oversee and manage all fiscal agent agreements, related financial reporting, and compliance requirements
Establish workflows, priorities, and accountability measures for the finance team
Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all financial, personnel, and organizational information
Identify challenges proactively and implement practical, solution-oriented approaches to improve processes and support organizational needs
Adapt effectively to changing priorities while maintaining strong organizational and operational performance
Technical Skills & Software
· Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop
· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
· Experience preparing and filing 1099 forms and related reporting requirements
