The Downtown Cleveland Improvement District will be reauthorized.

The Downtown Cleveland Improvement District will be reauthorized. In nearly 20 years of existence, property owners have repeatedly come together to support continuing essential enhanced clean, safe, and beautification services to the city’s core. This year is no different. Despite the many economic challenges that downtown property owners face, they have already rallied in support of reauthorizing the district for another term.

What is different this year is our active engagement with both the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County to become members of the Downtown Cleveland Improvement District as property owners. This is part of a strategy crafted over a year ago by the Downtown Cleveland Improvement Corporation board – comprised entirely of property owners – to convene all of downtown’s stakeholders in working together to attract talent and businesses, create jobs, and strengthen the urban environment for a more dynamic downtown.

The Downtown Cleveland Improvement District provides essential services that benefit all, including City- and County-owned properties. Their participation ensures a fair contribution from all property owners.

We have secured support from Cleveland City Council and are working with Cuyahoga County Council to secure theirs as well. We are grateful to Mayor Justin Bibb, Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne, and all of our stakeholders who stand with Downtown Cleveland to create a vibrant, thriving downtown. Inviting the City and the County to formally join the improvement district is an extension of this effort.

We look forward to working with all our stakeholders to finalize the Downtown Cleveland Improvement District’s renewal. The continued investment and collaboration of property owners, businesses, and public partners reinforce what we already know: downtown is a place worth investing in. Everyone who lives, works, and visits downtown will benefit.
