WHAT WE DO

Downtown Cleveland has been an anchor of growth for both population and jobs in a city and region still adapting to a post-industrial economy. Downtown Cleveland Alliance is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that serves to sustain and strengthen this growth through a comprehensive strategy for advancement. Through a variety of strategic initiatives, we work to attract talent, jobs, and investment through market influence, community impact, and irresistible experiences.

CLEAN, SAFE, AND WELCOMING

Through our flagship Clean & Safe Ambassador Program, DCA enhances the pedestrian experience by keeping the sidewalks of Downtown Cleveland clean, safe, and welcoming. The Ambassadors dispose of litter and debris, remove graffiti, and act as walking concierge throughout downtown. Several Ambassadors are also trained in social outreach, and through our growing co-responder program, DCA connects people in crisis with the shelter and services they need. DCA has trained social outreach workers on the job seven days a week.

 Business Development

DCA’s Business Development Center (BDC) plays an essential role in attracting business and investment to Downtown Cleveland. We work with property owners, commercial real estate professionals, and many public and private partners to connect business leaders, developers, and investors with opportunities and information. The BDC produces regular research reports on the downtown market which aid brokers and site selectors in bringing office and retail businesses downtown.

ADVOCACY

DCA advocates for public policies that support Downtown Cleveland’s sustainable and equitable growth. Our advocacy priorities reflect our leadership in building for the future through a strong development portfolio, an office market that meets today’s needs, and the infrastructure and amenities that attract residents and talent.

Urban Design + Experience

DCA understands that welcoming spaces and irresistible experiences are vital to attracting talent and investment. We work with strategic partners across sectors to activate our public spaces, produce unique events, and advocate for infrastructure and urban design that makes downtown safe and inviting for everyone and every mode of transportation.

Neighborhood Engagement

Downtown is a collection of unique neighborhoods, but we are all part of a single community. Through our City Advocates young professionals board, DCA engages with the community to inform our work and strengthen our neighborhood identity. The City Advocates program also provides civic education to rising leaders in the downtown community.

  • Winterfest

Winterfest jumpstarts and celebrates the winter season throughout Downtown Cleveland with a traditional tree lighting ceremony and various space activations around the city. This event brings more than 30,000 visitors downtown and encourages foot traffic around the city’s neighborhoods.

  • Light Up The Lake

Downtown Cleveland’s firework show, Light Up the Lake, is the ultimate celebration of Independence across the City of Cleveland. This high-profile entertainment experience takes place on the east bank of the Flats in Downtown Cleveland, bringing together downtown and Greater Cleveland residents, families, and visitors. In 2020, the event saw more than 15,000 attendees and gained more than 33,000 impressions across social media platforms.

  • Juneteenth Freedom Fest

After the 2020 civil unrest in Downtown Cleveland and the subsequent community recognition and pledge to actively combat racism as a public health crisis, festival organizers worked to create a place that reflects the deep roots and rich history that makes Cleveland so unique. The Juneteenth Freedom Fest allows attendees to celebrate, uplift, and engage with African American culture while positioning our city as a national leader in celebrating Juneteenth. The day highlights the depth of our Black creative community: featuring artists, musicians and performers, black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs, and community partner organizations.

  • Tall Ships

The Tall Ships America festival returns to Cleveland in 2022, celebrating Cleveland’s maritime history over the course of three days on the lake.
